About Tuxedo Trot

The Tuxedo Trot: Run for the Penguins is a fun, family-friendly event created by the Greensboro Science Center's Conservation Committee to raise funds for endangered African penguins. The birds' population has declined dramatically in the past 10 years and there is an urgent need for your help. This year, race proceeds will be distributed between the Greensboro Science Center and SANCCOB, an organization dedicated to the conservation of African penguins in their native habitat. Your registration fee helps support animals here at the Greensboro Science Center as well as their wild counterparts!

Why should I run for penguins?

Why not? They're funny, adorable and smell like fish. Plus, they need your help... Read on.

Why African Penguins?

The cold weather birds get all the hype. It's about time our warm-weather penguin pals get some love. Plus, their populations are declining very rapidly, with no turn-around in sight.

Are they really in THAT much trouble?

Yup. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species says "immediate conservation action is required to prevent further declines."

But, fear not! You can help. Sign up to run and help save a species.

What do I get with registration?

An awesomely fun time! Isn't that enough? No? Okay, you'll get other stuff, including an awesome medal, fun penguin information shared with you while you run (if you opt into the race app) and the satisfied feeling that comes with helping to save a species.
